A few words about Haris

Born in Thebes, a town near Athens. From an early age he studied classical guitar, turning later to jazz, broadening his musical horizons.

At the age of 13, he turned to Byzantine music, studying under the Master Protopsaltes, Georgios Hatzichronoglou, from whom he got a first his Diploma in 2003. After obtaining the diploma, he was introduced to the demanding repertoire of the Kalophonic hymns and the old Papadiki, and to special theory topics by musicologist Grigorios Anastasiou, PhD.

He studied oud near the masters Nikos Saragoudas, and Christos Tsiamoulis. Also, Greek music scales (Roads)-Makamat of Arab-Persian music, "Harmonics" and "Systematics" of Greek music with the musicologist, composer and researcher Giorgos Lykouras.

Between 2009 and 2012 he attended the following postgraduate courses:

  • Byzantine music with Achilleas Chaldaikis, PhD, professor of the Department of Musicology of the University of Athens, Ioannis Arvanitis, PhD, professor of the Ionian University
  • Theory of Eastern Music with Christos Tsiamoulis
  • Rhythmic theory with Sokratis Sinopoulos
  • Eastern music Improvisation (taksim) with Manos Achalinotopoulos and
  • Traditional singing with Panagiotis Pappas.

He has been serving as a Chanter for the last 25 years. He is also a member of the Byzantine choir of the musicology department of the University of Athens "Maistores of psaltic art", and the choir "Ilisiotes Psaltes" with the musicologist Grigorios Anastasiou.

He is a member of:

  • The Orchestra of musician and songwriter Antonis Apergis (Oud)
  • The group "Mr. Fackelmann's Papyrus", under the direction of the musicologist Giorgos Lykouras (Oud, Guitar, Singing)
  • "Heliconia", a group that performs traditional tunes and songs from all over Greece and the entire Mediterranean East (Oud, Song)
  • He used to be a member of the group "Techn-Asmata", a musical trio presenting rebetiko and greek folk music, respecting the first recordings of the musical works. (Folk guitar, Schrammelgitarre, Song)
  • Founding member of the "Nardos" trio, which specialized in Eastern music, and the research, highlighting and transfer to nowadays, old musical idioms of the peoples of the Mediterranean basin and the Arab world. (Oud, fretless Guitar, Guitar, Lavta, Cumbus, Saz, Stössel-laute, Akkordzither, Vocals)
  • The Arab orchestra, which specialized exclusively with classical Arabic music (Fretless Bass)

Since 2004 he has been teaching at music schools, conservatories and online the following: Guitar, Oud, Lavta, Fretless guitar, Saz-Tamboura, Laouto (Lute), Mandolin-Mandola, Tzoura-Baglama and other string instruments, Byzantine music, Greek traditional singing, Eastern music theory, Greek music scales (roads) - maqamat for European-style instruments and Eastern music Improvisation.

In recent years he has been writing books about Greek music.

He studied Civil Engineering.
